Advanced Acoustic Environment for AI, Speech & Multimodal Research


D-Acoustics designed and executed a high-performance Multimodal Speech Capture Room at IIT Mandi, developed to provide an extremely quiet and acoustically controlled environment for speech recording, multimodal data capture, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), voice recognition and advanced research applications.


The facility incorporates specialised design principles associated with speech anechoic chambers and semi-anechoic acoustic environments, with stringent control of background noise, reverberation and external sound intrusion.


Anechoic & Low-Reverberation Acoustic Design


Unlike a conventional recording studio, a speech anechoic chamber or low-reverberation capture room requires extremely high sound absorption together with exceptional control of background noise.


The IIT Mandi facility was engineered using a combination of:

• Low-noise architectural detailing

• Broadband sound-absorptive treatment

• Specialised acoustic ceiling treatment

The objective was to create a highly controlled acoustic environment capable of supporting clean speech acquisition and high-quality multimodal datasets with minimal interference from room reflections and background noise.
