A research-based conference room using Pattamadai mats as absorptive acoustic panels.
The CSRC Model Room was designed and built as part of SHRI research supported by DST. The project studied the sound absorption coefficient of Pattamadai mats and explored their use as a functional acoustic material in interior spaces.
Instead of treating Pattamadai mats only as craft or decorative elements, they were integrated as absorptive wall panels. The room supports conference use while also demonstrating how traditional Indian materials can contribute to speech clarity, acoustic comfort, and sustainable interior design.
